Preparing the field at Sherm's place

Last night, Pa brought over a tractor and rototiller and set of discs for Jon to prepare the field along our driveway.  It was in summerfallow last year, and came out gorgeous-- black and fine and we're just itching to get planting now!  Manitoba black gold.  We plan to plant half and do the other half of the 2-acre field in cover crop (depending on how much space we need, it's not out of the question that we will run out of space at Mom's and have to use more, lol). Mom, Dad, Jon and I call the farm "Sherm's Place" for the farmer Sherman Myrah that we are buying it from.  He loved the place for nearly 40 years, and we keep discovering more and more to love about it as days go on.

This morning as Jon finished discing, I washed all the outside windows I could reach and cleaned up some of the gardens beside the house.  I found a raspberry patch, some lily of the valley (my favourite!), irises, day lilies, and a PEONY!  Can't wait to see what else pops up as the season progresses.  Drying lots of stinging nettle right now and made a pot of nettle soup last night that is delicious - used the recipe from Mom's website.

Robin watch-- Photos from May 11 and May 12.  We are going to cage this tree off to protect Mama Robin and eggs from Samson, as it is low and right beside our front door.  Neat to watch the eggs appear!
